Old Hamster

Hello,
I have an old Hamster named Boxer, he is a Dwarf Hamster and will be a year old soon.
Unfortunately he is getting to that age where I just know that he has not got long left.
Everytime he comes out for a drink you staggers abit.
I have had an issue- I think he may be Diabetic.
Well, I have thought that for a long time, after seeking advice from a member of my old forum (HamsterHaven, Now deleted )
If anyone has any ideas as to how I can help him then please say. He has not got long left and I want to make him feel his best.
Do diabetic Hamsters live as long as normal Hamsters?

I'm Certain that if you make sure it has food and water and the right attention then it will be happy.
I don't know the last bit. Mine have never had Diabetes, but I will look it up for you any how.

Hey, that forum got deleted, maybe someone found my password and deleted the forum. I don't know. I'm really upset about that

If only I could get my old forum back, there was this member on there who knew alot about Hamster with Diabetes.
Oh well. At least I've found this forum!

what type of hamster is boxer? usually diabetes is mostly found in campbell hamsters. When a hamster starts to get older than 1 you will obvously notice some changes in its behavior, it will run less, be more tired, sleep more, his routine will slightly change a bit but unfortunately this is the circle of hamster lifes since they have a short life span.

1 of mine is getting on abit now. Its sad that they have such a short life span.

Yes Boxer is a Dwarf Hamster, with a bald bit underneath him.
He will be a year old around September.
Do they only live for about a year?
He was my first Hamster, and the reason why I created the Hamster Haven forum.

is boxer housed alone? Lonely dwarf hamsters which are housed alone tend to die before. But since he will be 1 year old soon and has always been alone, he will need to stay alone since dwarf hamsters won't accept other dwarf hamsters when they are older than 5 months old. In some cases they will but if you don't have space for a new one then it's better not to risk
