Crusty Spot Empty Crusty Spot

Post  Skinny Pigs Mon Aug 11, 2008 12:34 pm

Hello.
I have a Campbell Dwarf Hamster, and I today inspected it and found that he had a crusty spot on his tum. It's kind of crusty and yellow. I did not want to hurt him, he's not very tame, I only got him a few weeks back.
What do I do with this crusty spot? And what is it?

Thank You.
Mat.

This is a scent gland. This is normal for a male of that breed.
Dab is carefuly with warm water, using a cotton ball.

Take to a vet if there is any redness or swelling.

yes it is the scent gland, it's quite normal and when the hamster ages the scent gland will show more due to the pus coming out from it. Scent glands are used to mark territory Smile

in my experience scent gland is more easily seen on male dwarf hamsters and when they start to develop and become sexually mature the scent gland will show more.
